  1. Awesome little knifeReview by
As they say the best knife is the one that you have when you need one, this is exactly that knife. Its thin and light enough to carry with you all the time!

  2. Great edcReview by
This thing punches well above it’s weight, both tools click solidly into place, the knife comes razor sharp and doesn’t take much to keep it that way and the multi tool works well. This doesn’t cause a stir when taken out at work or in public and is an excellent edc knife for those light everyday tasks. Highly recommended and great service from HH as usual. (Posted on )
  3. Little belter. Review by
Frequently the pocket knife you choose has certain attributes you are looking for, utility beyond a simple blade. SAKs are all about abilities and versatility.

So it seems strange to mention the Vic Alox Bantam, because at first glance there is not much to it. Main blade, and a funny looking multi-use tool that claims to be a can opener, cap lifter, screwdriver and wire stripper. All in a wafer thin 84mm long frame. Minus the usual key ring. Not much to get excited about?

Well. If you really want to save weight, say on an extended trip, with several locations, especially when going by air, and you discover in your preparation than you need to rethink every ounce, this Bantam is as minimal as it gets. Mine literally was my kitchen utensil for a lengthy few weeks of living out of a suitcase. It did everything I needed, doubled as my EDC when in public, visiting friends, and for outdoor activities. And it opened many cans and bottles. So I can vouch for its abilities there. Yes, the screwdriver came in handy. The corner will fit a common range of Philips screws, as I discovered.

There was never a need to strip any wires, but the tiny notch makes a decent bending and forming tool for smaller wires. It really is more of an "assist" to wire stripping. Not being sharpened, the tiny notch will not actually pare or strip off insulation on its own. Imagine any electrician grinding his teeth at the very suggestion. Rather use the main blade to cut around the wire's insulation, then use the notch to push the cut portion of insulation off the wire.

Another use. Although I don't usually do this, it was convenient on a couple of occasions to leave both the blade and the multi-use tool out, swapping ends as needed. In some situations the multi-tool serves to extend the grip. Good to know for those times when you have an awkward job and struggle to keep a secure grip.

And when you need to return an item to a store but it has one of those small plastic thread-like rings, secured by a tiny split nozzle over a very small bead, the wire stripper notch is the perfect size to remove the thin plastic ring. Grip the actual tool, thumb behind thumb, and gradually push to pop the plastic clasp apart. It can be placed back on the item if you find that you will be returning your goods.

The main spear blade is Victorinox's usual capable cutter, long enough to do lots of food prep, cut a sandwich, butter toast, open packaging, and makes a pretty good little mirror! Nice and easy to keep sharp.

The trade off for the Bantam's feather-like weight is the thin handle and possible fatigue or discomfort. But, truly, for the few times that extended use has been a factor, I have not experienced sore hands or any hot spots from repeated contact.

Heavy use situations would probably call for a more suitable tool or selection of tools. Most people would, I think, understand this SAK's limits, and not ruin it out of ignorance or frustration.

It really is an ultralight that will give you its all. This Bantam punches well above its weight!

  5. Almost perfectReview by
    I'm rating this at 4.8/5.
As everyone else has said, it's great for all the right reasons, I just wish it had a keyring attachment point. For now it will just live in my wallet, which is always with me.

  7. Nice knifeReview by
Feather light and gives the impression of frailty, but it is SOLID, no half stop on main blade but opens with a solid click when fully open, the screwdriver/bottle opener has a half stop. Excellent knife for general day to day usage, opening letters, peeling apples etc, definitely not a heavy duty knife like a Rat-1 or a Buck 110 so don't expect too much, but as a general every day pocket knife it's absolutely perfect. 10. AKA the BBQ specialReview by
Bottle opener and a blade, not much more to say really. Alox model so it's nice and light, crisp springs as you'd expect from any SAK. Oddly the combination tool has a halfstop whereas the blade doesn't. (Posted on )
