Scorpion Fairbairn-Sykes Commando Knife

Scorpion Fairbairn-Sykes Commando Knife

The Fairbairn-Sykes commando knife is a double- edged knife with a foil grip developed by William Ewart Fairbairn and Eric Anthony Sykes before World War II. It was made famous during the war when issued to British Commandos, including the SAS. Although the Fairbairn-Sykes knife is now of interest mainly to collectors, because of its sleek lines and its commando associations it still remains in production today.

The balance of a Fairbairn-Sykes is a crucial part of the design and it takes careful forging and production to ensure that the knife balances exactly as designed. The hilt should fit easily in the hand and the blade should not be so heavy that it tends to drag the hilt from the fingers in a loose grip.

Today, Scorpion Knives produces Fairbairn-Sykes knives mainly for enthusiasts. They continue to manufacture these with a precision that ensures you receive a perfectly balanced Fairbairn-Sykes commando knife worthy of adding to your collection. The knives all come in high quality wood lacquered presentation case. There is a choice of either a polished stainless finish or black.

  1. Durable and well-madeReview by
I have been studying the armed and unarmed combat methods of Fairbairn, Sykes, Applegate, Styers and Grant-Taylor since the early 90's and only recently bought a "J Nowill and Sons" FS ********* knife. I've used an Applegate-Fairbairn and the Gerber Mark II, but had just never gotten around to getting a good FS. Well, when I originally received this knife I was somewhat disappointed, but now this has become my ************** blade. I really like the feel of it and it seems very durable and well made. Not as polished as a Gerber of AF, but I now trust my life to this knife. I also bought the MOD survival knife and my original opinion of it has not changed. If it is intentionally an ugly and amateurish looking knife, it totally fulfills its purpose. I understand the object of the ill fitting wooden grips, but the spot welds on the blade to cross guard really lead me to believe that it was made by a newbie, instead of a true Sheffield craftsman. It's actually dated "1993", so maybe they've gotten better since then. As to the FS--if you buy one and don't like it at first, give it a chance. You may have to sharpen it (it was dull as sin) because, contrary to what those who know NOT what they're talking about, the FS is made for ******** as well as *******. Buy the DVD "Gutterfighting" and observe Major Fairbairn, himself, demonstrate his method. The history and documented combat efficiency of this knife is worth the second look. (Posted on )
  2. Commando bladesReview by
The commando dagger is just that a dagger!. They do not require sharp blades as knives do. Sometimes the personel who had been issued them put an edge on them, but like bayonets daggers are issued dull. If you purchase a FS dagger thinking it will sharp, you will be disappointed. However, the blade should be spot on. Buy a proper one from Sheffield with WD markings I think my two came from HH (Posted on )
  3. Not what I expectedReview by
My first knife that came through had an "S" shaped blade. Unfortunately for myself, the other one they had in stock was of a similar "bent" standard. After a two week wait, I got another. The blade is still not perfectly as straight as it should be, there is no cutting edge, the grinding of the blade to give it the diamond shape cross section is uneven on one side, and the centre line of the handle is offset with the centre line of the blade. For the price, the workmanship and quality is very poor. I have kept it even though I'm not that happy with it, and in no way blame the guys at Heinnie Haynes, quality control should be done by the manufacturers. Looks great in its box, but certainly would not recommend, and won't be buying anything from Scorpion in the future which is a shame as it's a British company.Y et again, the team at Heinnie Haynes gave first class service and help as always, and continue to be my number one supplier.
