  1. Decent knife package Review by
Couldn't find a knife that took my eye with carbon steel and a good price like this. The grind angle was too high for it to be as useful as this knife should be, so I reground it to 22.5 degrees and sharpened it and now it's just a good work horse of a knife. The steel takes a beautiful edge being high carbon, good quality steel. Knife to have a free ferro rod and sharpening stone aswell although your paying for the knife really the ferro rod does its job but the stone is not the best. Overall a very good price and a very good knife. HH excellent service thanks. (Posted on )
  2. Excellent knife, can be made even better with a little work...Review by
Already have the F37 so I kind of knew what to expect but none the less, a great knife for the price. Good steel, good temper and nice and thick blade. Straight out th box it's a really good package with an acceptable working grind, a good ferrorod and an acceptable sheath. The stone it comes with is very coarse so not much use in my opinion, but for the price this is unbeatable. The sheath is ok, its nylon and I'm not too much of a fan of that, but again, its £35, so who am I to complain... 5 out of 5 straight out the box.

I modified mine somewhat by taking the coating off, sharpening the spine so it strikes a ferrorod and replacing the plastic handle scales with wooden ones. Will also make a nice leather sheath as the nylon one is good, but not as aesthetically pleasing... Also changed the grid a little to make it a bit more steeper and now it's wicked sharp. Very excited and happy with the knife.

Will definitely be buying more of these Schrade knives.

Service from HH is fantastic as usual. Thanks guys, you really are excellent.

  3. Excellent serviceReview by
Arrived in 24 hours of order, solid beast or a knife, very sharp! Cutting edge a bit wide for shaving wood but was able to steeper it on a whet stone , black coating is awful ,sanded that off . The hollow grind is uneven, higher one side where the blade curves , I would like the handle a bit longer, but I d have big hands, BUT what a fantastic knife for about 30 pounds! For the price you get a great knife, good steel, hard to break this tank ! Thanks to HH

  4. My favourite from Schrades 2015 rangeReview by
Brilliant! A perfect field archers survival knife.
The more I use it, the more I like it.
My needs are for a sturdy wood processing knife to feed my stove(s)
and a point to dig arrows out of various woodwork.
IF I pimp it I plan to :-
Put a scandi grind on it. The F38 has a shorter grind over its siblings so it will lose less of its edge. Them convex strop it to a mirror finish.
Extend the hand choil into the fire steel choil.
    Shorten the handle.
Very similar to the Pathfinder Schools PLSK range.

  5. Not cheap- just a very good value field knifeReview by
I wonder where else £35 will get you 6 inches of .24" (6mm) thick 1095 with a life time warranty? Schrade really are becoming the leader in the value 'user' sector.

If you compare this knife to it's closest competitor (in my mind) the Condor Rodan, the Scrade is £10 cheaper, made of better steel, has a better handle design and comes with the ferro rod and diamond sharpener... I own both knives, if I lost both of them I'd only replace the Scrade.

I would also agree that the blade bevels are a tad uneven but close enough. The handle jimping can be a bit over aggressive- adding a bit of inner tube to the handle is an easy fix...

Overall it was very easy to award 5 stars to this Busse Badger or Becker Companion rival!

  6. Great value knifeReview by
I've had this knife a few months now and, on balance, I couldn't be happier with it. Bevels were slightly unbalanced on receiving, but nothing terrible, and the blade edges up well, with good retention. The design is my favourite of the knives in this little group (36, 37 and this the 38) and works great as a camp knife, the 6mm stock working well with wood splitting, and the point is still delicate enough for all the usual bushcraft tool making tasks required on setting up camp. I've personally ground the coating off the visible blade, as I like bare steel, warts and all. The handle is excellent, both in design and material, with great grip even in wet conditions.

This blade is great as it is, and also offers the opportunity for your own modding, the handles being easily replaceable for something more to your taste, so a great knife to experiment with.

The sheath is a functional nylon affair, which is more than adequate, and comes with a front pouch with basic honing stone and firesteel, although I intend to honour this knife with wood scales and a leather sheath eventually.

At this price you can't grumble with these blades, Schrade really have upped their game in recent years.

4 stars purely because the bevels were unbalanced, but 5 stars really as it performs so well.
