  1. Love, love, love this knife.Review by

Very pleased with my second Rough Rider knife from HH. I selected the white bone option as I feel a white coloured scale gives a knife with a 'maritime' look and is reminiscent of past sailors and mariners using whale bone and walrus tusk etc to make scales for their knives. Also not too keen on the anchor motif on the red and amber jigged bone which looks a bit cliched and tacky IMO.
The blade and spike on my knife are perfectly centred, they lock up perfectly without play or wobble and the blade doesn't rub the liners when closed. The weight and size of the knife is pleasing and screams quality.
I'd love to see this knife available with tobacco bone scales and in the white jigged bone scales found on the Arthur Wright sheepsfoot (without the anchor badge). I'd snap them up if they were. Are you listening Rough Rider?
Lightning fast delivery from HH. Ordered mid afternoon and the knife arrived next day.

I bought this knife on whim and glad I did. It is much bigger and sturdier than I was expecting and the Marlin spike is very useful. In fact I would have to say this is the most useful knife I have out of all the RR knives I have.

The white bone handle was my third choice as the other choices were not in stock, but I have to say that it was the best choice by default - lovely and smooth and much nicer than most of my jigged bone handle RR knives.

    Nice one RR.

Nice to have a useful tool handy in your trousers.

Thought I'd give one of these a whirl, and was pretty impressed. Good solid Sheepsfoot blade, and a marlin spike which locks solidly - though, as has been noted, this turns it into a lock-knife as far as the UK knife laws are concerned. You could do a lot worse for a boat knife. (Posted on )

Bought this as a bit of a toy.
Much better than that. Would not like my life to depend on it, I have fixed blades and harness cutters for that.
Which knife will i use on deck _ This one. It works and if I drop it in the sea I buy another at this price..
Bought the bone version which look very traditional and will pobably be giving them as souveriers to guest crew.
Heinne service as fast as ever

I'm obviously one of the lucky ones! Mine (white bone) arrived today, and I have to say that I'm very impressed. There are one or two British slip joint manufacturers in steel city, who would be advised to try and match the fit and finish of this knife. Well fitting scales, beautifully smooth polished pins, and nickel bolsters all look better executed than some on some of my British knives. The back springs are well finished, the blade pivots are tight with little lateral movement, and the bail spring works well.

OK, not quite the standard of the best German and Spanish knives, but for under £20 delivered, unbelievably good value for money.

  7. great knifeReview by

Have only given this knife a 4 because the spike locks making it illegal to carry in UK. Have an army jack knife and a navy knife (John Nowill)the spikes do not lock on these. Apart from this it is a really good looking knife no blade or spike wobble on mine and blade is sharp and tough. Overall has an old world look and no anchor on bone version which is quite pleasing. Would look good in any collection. (Posted on )
  8. wobbly bladeReview by

Bought this knife for the marlin spike as I am into paracord projects and knot tying, this seems to function well enough. However, the blade is another matter. It is very slack when opened and has quite a bit of play on it. I would have returned this knife but I really need the use of the marlin spike as I have a few paracord projects that urgently require one. This is the first time I've had any complaints about a product bought from Heinnie. (Posted on )

I?ve had several RR knives in the past and been very impressed with the quality. I was beginning to think RR couldn?t make a bad knife. This one proved me wrong ? it?s shameful! The marlin spike works reasonably well and seems to lock securely but the blade is loose and the slip lock is barely functional. How difficult would it have been to fit a liner lock to the blade? The white bone scales look reasonable but one of the rivets was not smoothed down properly. I know it?s only a ú14 knife but to my mind, there?s no point in making a knife that doesn?t work, no matter how cheap it is. (Posted on )
  10. The worst knife…Review by
The worst knife I have bought from Rough Rider.
I have about 10 Rough Rider knives this one within 2 day of opening and closing the knife a few time the lock on the Marlin Spike broke and now will not lock.
This is so unlike the other knives I have. This is very poor quality they have bitten off more than they could chew with this design.

I have four rough riders knives and they are correct quality, but the marlin; because the spring doesn't hold the blade open (a big play of 5mm!=1/4inch!)impossible to use a knife with a flaw like that, and the lock of the spike is loose too! (Posted on )

I got one of these due to the stream of compliments both here and youtube on all the Rough Rider knives, and I'm not dissapointed. The fit and finish are excellent and the blade very sharp, great lock on the spike, worth twice the price. (Posted on )

Blade easy open, no play/grittiness. Spring could be stronger; not much "snap" open, but OK, not problem when cutting. Easily cut 1" rope. Marlin spike/lock is real quality, even the click sounds expensive! Scales well-finished & matched to bolsters. A very good knife which looks beautiful in white bone. (Posted on )

This lovely knife has a full 3inch slipjoint sheep's foot blade. The elongated bail locks/unlocks the marlin spike and is designed to/would open a shackle if pushed. Obviously more show than life-saver, but good quality, sharp and chunky. The bone model is reminiscent of whalebone and has the look and feel of a well preserved antique. Bought as a gift -will have to buy another, and learn some knots! at this price, a bargain!
(Nb. the locking spike probably makes it non 'UK street legal')
