Description

The Mora Eldris has landed! It has been a long time coming and Mora have not disappointed in any way. The Mora Eldris is a small fixed blade that can be carried as a neck knife, and is no bigger than your average pocket knife. It has been superbly designed with great materials. Boasting 12C27 Swedish Steel with a Scandi grind and ergonomic TPE rubber handles.

Moving on from the bulk of the knife we can now look at some of the smaller details which have made this knife so widely anticipated . . . Firstly, the spine of the blade has been ground top make it highly effective when used with a fire starter. Secondly, the blade has also been designed as a precision instrument. Those tasks which require a high degree of control are now easily accomplished. The Polypropylene sheath has also been really well designed with the knife clicking securely into place, very useful if you plan on carrying this as a neck knife.

Overall, the Mora Eldris may be a small knife in terms of stature but it is far from that in terms of potential uses and functionality!

I'll be honest when I first saw the Eldris popping up all over the internet I dismissed it as an Instagram-friendly fad, a knife that'll look sweet and Scandinavian in lifestyle photos but not really all that practical... but it rocks!
It's made all my other knives from Tops, ESEE and Fallkniven redundant, as it handles everything I need a knife for, but in a dinky, easily carried, non-threatening package.
The blade is superb, and so far I've used it for food, skinning, general garden work and whittling - it's handled all green woods like no other blade I've tried, and even seasoned woods have proved no obstacle. So far, after a week of heavy use it still hasn't needed sharpening, though I have stropped it a couple of times.
It's really made me rethink the knives I own, and I've since bought one each for my wife and kids too.
My one gripe was the sharp spine, which I took some wet and dry paper to for comfort when whittling, but I can see how some would like it for firesteels (I have lots of lighters, so a sharp spine is not a feature I need).
So... get one, it's a perfect all-rounder, well worth the money, and is fun as tools can get.

  3. It's a great little Knife Review by

This, these actually as I have the green and blue, have become my go to everyday knives. They are cute, well designed, hold an edge well and are non threatening. They are a step up design wise from a normal mora and considering there utility and added quality are a steal at the price. I don't understand why people complain about the additional cost, it's a premium product, even tesco has a finest range and no one moans about that!
Anyway, the fact that they look like they come from the John lewis cookshop means you can use them on family campsites and at the scout bbq without people thinking you are a knife looney.
It's a lovely little knife and mora has nailed the design

I was hooked by this knife since I first saw the teaser pictures from Mora earlier this year. My first thought was "that's cute". I was a little apprehensive about the price, but decided to get one anyway. It is well worth it! Mora have upped their game, producing a well thought out, well finished knife. It fits well in the hand, has excellent sheath retention, and is hardly noticeable in the pocket.
I have furnished mine with a paracord neck lanyard, and a home made extra retention strap, and an LMF scout ferro rod in blue to match, all for less than the "enhanced kit" version of the knife.
If you get one, you won't be disappointed!
As usual, the obligatory praise for Heinnies Haynes is due, for fast service and the best internet shopping experience bar none!

  6. The Mora Eldres... not a donkeyReview by

If you're going to live life following just one rule, you can do a lot worse than 'weight equals quality'.

Oh, and 'Don't covet thy neighbour's donkey' of course. That's another belter.

Which brings us to the Mora Eldris. Not to be confused with Idris Elba, who is an English actor of some renown, the Edris Melba is a small but perfectly formed fixed blade knife, with a superb Swedish pedigree and a competitive price tag.

Despite its undoubted quality, the Oris Meldra is exceptionally light. Suspiciously, disconcertingly light. But fear not: I've used the knife in anger, cutting through some pretty serious brambles (trust me, I've got some really nasty scratches) and it worked a treat.

So, along with soufflés, Olympic gymnasts and hot air balloons, this knife is another 'exception that proves the rule': heavy is normally best, but not always.

Hennie Haynes have promised to rescue one neglected donkey for every three score and twelve knives that are purchased, which is something we can all applaud.

Make yourself, and a donkey, very happy - buy a Moris Eldra today.

Small and chunky, Sharp as all Mora knifes. great for whittling and as a backpacking knife. Enough grip for three fingers of my small hands.

Arrived in less than a week. And that's just my first impressions.

I know the internet knife community is in uproar over the price of this little Mora, and to some extent they should be, in the USA they retail for under 20 pounds, but unfortunately the pound is falling and we will end up paying more for everything from abroad, post Brexit it will be worse, anyway the knife.
On opening the knife is a very sturdy little thing, overall build quality is lovely, sheath, handle and blade an all round solid little knife. My only criticism to build quality would be there are grind marks in the blade, which makes it unhygienic for food prep, otherwise a decent sturdy little tool.
I have already given mine away for one reason alone, and that is, its too small for my hands. Ive got big hands XL glove size, and the Eldris is just too small for me personally. what i found was happening was, because the handle is bulbous, the bulb naturally wants to fit in the hollow of your palm, like using a screwdriver, this meant that the very sharp blade was on my index finger. Have a look at the HH blog post " is the Eldris worth it, and there are a number of knives pictured as the competition, every one has a large finger choil to counteract their small handles and keep your fingers safe. In summary the Eldris is a good sturdy little knife, and design or if it fits are bigger issues than the price which is still only thirty quid, although I don't think it would have hurt Mora to give the strappy press stud bit with this as well for inverted carry.

  9. Fine quality for a very reasonable price.Review by

Great service from HH as always.
The Mora Eldris is a superb small knife, compact and strong and comes in a good variety of colours, I was lucky to obtain a green one. You would be hard pressed to find a such a well made and robust small knife at such a reasonable price. I think a reality check is needed regarding the pricing of Mora knives, they are almost ludicrously under priced. Every model could have a £5-£10 price hike and you would still be getting great value for money. Mora are upping their game with adventurous new designs such as the Eldris and the Garberg which I think will be very successful. If you do not wish to pay the higher prices for their top end products there are plenty of cheaper options available. However I do think the option with the fire starter and retaining loop is needlessly expensive, I am sure we could all rustle up such items from our own personal stocks. That said the Morakniv Eldris is a Five Star winner all round. Do get one, you will be glad you did.

  10. Too expensive Review by
    Rating
Wow! Ordered 4:30 pm got by noon next day! HH has a Time Lord working working for them.

This knife is up to mora standards. Sharp and useful . I have wanted a shorter bladed mora for ages and this hits the mark. I have small hands so the handle just fits, but if you put the handle into sheath it extends the grip. How effective is this? I'll find out when I get outside with the knife.

This gets 4 stars because I feel it is a bit expensive. £20 would be closer a reasonable price. It's small. It comes with just the knife and the sheath.
