      Leatherman PS4 £45.
      Gerber Dime £25.
So anyone who's expecting PS4 performance needs to have a quiet word with their expectations. Ok, so I own one PS4 & two Dimes. I use the Dimes much more than the PS4.
Why? Because if I break or loose it I just replace it.
Also, to me it is not a stand alone tool. It's an EDC that compliments my Swiss Army Knife (Huntsman). My SAK has better blades & scissors, but, and it's a serious but, there are tasks that it can do that my SAK can't. Try extracting a fiddly fuse out of a cars fuse box sometime or picking up a small screw. That is when you will quickly develop an appreciation for the Dimes spring loaded Pliers. Also dead useful for picking up something I'm not certain of.
The package opener is fantastic. Screwdrivers are good enough. The scissors are a bit meh, but they only get used on things that I really don't want to blunt my SAK sissors on, like sandpaper.
Blades not brilliant but I mostly use it as a scraper as anyway.

      So should you get one?
      Yes.

I’ve had my Dime for 15 months now, so I thought I’d do a wee update on my original review.

As I expected the paint is coming off on the handles and I’ve just lost a second screw on the handles, the blade and package opener are mint condition, both hold a good edge, scissors are working fine but the pliers have never been very good from the start, the bottle opener is loose but still works, all ok with file and screwdrivers, I’ve never used the tweezers.

I’ve used this daily for 15 months and it’s still working, if I lost it would I buy another one?

Without hesitation, it’s a good EDC at a fair price, it’s not perfect but perfect costs a lot more!

Had the black model for 9 months now. The paint is rubbing off so it looks a bit scruffy, but everything else is just fine. The blade doesn't come very sharp, but I've used the scissors (which work just fine for me) and package opener much more and they were fine out of the box. The file was pretty much useless, but this is probably down to the black coating.

The travel model has a much more sensible colour scheme, and loses the not-very-useful blade. If it had anything more useful than the stupid hook, I'd definitely recommend it over the standard dime.

this in my opinion is a ecent small multi toool. it is small enough for "fit and forget" use, by which I meanto place it on ones keys for everyday EDC. Kudos to Henny's for getting itnext day. Placed my order 21:04 on the Friday and it was with me the Monday 08:22 (Posted on )

First of all from order to delivery, less than 24hrs ........ witchcraft!

I don’t think I can add much to the very accurate review by Stevo as I think he nailed it!

I ordered the Dime in Black as I thought it looked better, how long the coating will last is anyone’s guess,?

The tools all open well, although the knife and package opener were dull, 2 minutes and that was sorted.

It’s a good little EDC Multitool that should give you a few years service if used for what it was designed for.

      10 outta 10 to HH.

I like the external bottle opener, and how its location frees a blade slot for another tool. So far it has not worn a hole in my pocket.

Also good is the packaging blade, which does a nice job as a precise orange peeler. Circumnavigate your orange 3 or 4 times and you pull back each section of rind in turn to reveal the fruit, leaving the skin looking like a flower in bloom. It becomes a game with each orange to see if you can peel it in one intact piece, with more or less equally sized petals. Yes, any good blade can perform the same task, but this one's shape means that you don't have to think as much about going too deep. It also does just fine for those annoyingly tough clamshell packages. Mine needed sharpening to get a decent edge.

The main blade has thoughtfully been designed with a useful amount of belly. The curvature gives more cutting edge and imparts a bit more advantage for slicing cuts than would a straight edge. The blunt sheepfoot style tip helps prevent accidents but thanks in part to that short sweep of belly, you also give up the precise tip of a true sheepfoot blade.

The scissors are the weak spot for the Dime. Ironic considering that Gerber is owned by Fiskars, whose many types of scissors are what most people think of when the hear the brand name mentioned. The Dime's scissors are let down by imprecise blade alignment and needlessly frail construction. Also they are smaller than those on a Victorinox SD Classic. If the Vic's are rated a 5, the Dime's would be a 3, maybe a 2. Leatherman's little PS4 has similarly tiny scissors yet the quality is easily on par with Vic's.

The screwdrivers on the Dime are short but they do work well. The file on the Philips screwdriver is very small. But at least it is there. The black version lessens the ability of the file, seeing that the black coating covers the tiny file teeth. Oops. The colour version of the Dime avoids this.

The tweezers are a bit on the weak side, but have given no cause for real complaints as long as too much is not expected of them. The slanted ends help to dislodge certain tiny items.

The pliers are where the Dime really performs best, I think. They make up for any lack in the tweezers most of the time. When used within sensible limits, the little pliers do just fine and are the reason I even considered the Dime in the first place.

I've tried to be fair in this review. It's best not to praise or condemn a product until it has seen real use. So about two years of service is a reasonable basis here.

It is cheaper than the PS4, and individual features are always a series of compromises and trade-offs between similar products. I carry the PS4 more often. Yet the Dime has its amount of pocket time as well.

Small but useful, I give the Gerber Dime four stars.

      HH? Heartily recommended!
