Description

Fallkniven have earned a deserved reputation for producing some of the best quality and usable fixed and folding knives in the world, partly due to their use of the finest laminate steels, advanced technology in the manufacturing process and centuries old craftsmanship. The U1 is a non-locking folder of the highest calibre. Using a slip joint mechanism it is legal carry in most European countries including the UK. 3G laminate powder steel means, as with all falkniven knives, the blade edge is beyond comparison and ultra sharp. The Cocobolo handle scales adds a touch of class to this undoubted leader of the pack. It is supplied with a cordura belt sheath.

A great quality UK legal knife, but a bit pricey for what it is. Only large enough for a three finger grip and blade geometry only suitable for light duty - but this is what it's designed for (i.e. not for hard or prolonged use). A keen slicer.

A superb modern example of a traditional gentleman's knife. Great fit and finish, holds a razor sharp fine edge and is easy to sharpen on a sharpmaker.

I have two of these and and on one the lamination lines are a bit uneven on different sides (different height on each side of the blade) but I am not concerned as for me these are EDC, and it doesn't affect performance, but for collectors i'm sure HH would exchange if not you're not happy.

I'm not convinced the laminated steel, which must add to the production cost, adds much in terms of performance in such a small light duty knife, but it is a nice knife-nerd feature and certainly doesn't do any harm.

Some older reviews mention problems with sharp edges on the handle. My knifes exhibit no such issues - perhaps a newer, revised design. the only sharp angle is where the blade meets the backspring, and this has caused me no problems.

Had this knife for about a week now and used on a few trips to the woods and as a general EDC on rotation with my LTC. Fallkniven really are underrated knives, this is a great EDC, great steel, fit and finish and very people friendly which in current climate was a big decision in me purchasing this over a replacement UKPK.
    Highly recommended.

Small, sturdy, non locking blade. The non threatening aspect makes it perfect in every social situation. On top of this, the cocobolo handles are simply beautiful!
Scary sharp 3G steel. One downside though: not so easy to maintain that factory sharpness... The price you have to pay to the high Rockwell tag.

Lightning fast HH service as usual.

A wonderful knife. Razor sharp out of the box and it holds an edge better than any knife I've previously owned.

One word of warning - I've had a couple of heart stopping moments when the blade almost closed on my fingers. On both occasions I was stupidly working with the point of the knife rather than the edge so I can't score the knife down but I do wish that safety features such as locking mechanisms weren't illegal. When a knife is this sharp you might do more than cut yourself you might lose your fingers.

Be careful. I learnt my lesson the lucky way.

Very sharp very useful, use it all the time , dressed a deer in the field with it so a wee knife for big jobs. Downside is weak spring I like a positive spring action but hey ho pluses well outweigh minuses so 5 stars buy one (Posted on )

I have to agree with Mark, Evans, Nigel, Gary, Paul that whilst this is a lovely knife it does have its drawbacks. The design of the handle does make heavy use a little sore on the hand with prolonged use and the wood can make it a little slippy when wet.

The blade is incredibly sharp out of the box and maintains its edge very well. The pouch is very durable and tough with a handy belt loop.

I've just bought my second one of these, and I don't regret the expenditure.

Nothing fancy, no frills, but a proper EDC with a very, very sharp blade, made of top quality laminated steel. Add a Kwik stud to the back of the blade, and you have a one handed opener, which is perfectly legal

Incidentally, the Kwik stud, which looks as thought it should be there, does not mark the blade, no matter how hard you tighten it.

This is a great knife. it is old in its style, a gentleman's knife. small not flashy.
It is likely to be overlooked even by the anti knife types.

very sharp and worth every penny. I have had mine for 4 years.use it as a knife and it will last. I am suprised by other peoples low scores.

this is a practical tool, not a knife to impress your mates with, not made to be used as a survival tool. its for the urban / field environment. it looks boring and surely that is to its credit.

Unbelievable, all this pussy whining about one of the finest folders around! Ouch, it hurts my hand, Gee, I can't get it out of the pouch, Gosh, these edges are so hard they hurt my skin. Tom, Mark, Evans, Nigel, Gary, Paul, please take my advice and stay away from knifes for the rest of your lives!

Real men know how to handle a knife. They might note that 'the handles become somewhat slippery when your hands are wet' or that 'the steel is hard to sharpen in the field after you've been chasing game for over three weeks'.

My ugly dog Tanja is more man than you are!

Well I was looking forward to this coming through the post, first impressions were good until you hold it. For the amount of money it is I am quite disappointed with the finish. The knife is very well put together and it looks like it will last a long time, unfortunately as others have said, the edges are so sharp, the metal has been stamped out (guessing) or lazer cut but at no point have the edges been finished, you can almost cut using the back of the knife handle. I really like the rest of the knife, so much so that I have just spent the best part of an hour taking the sharp edges off using my Dremel, not something I wanted to do after spending ú130. Now it is how Fallkniven should have finished it. Would have given 5 out of 5 if it had of been finished before I got it out of the box. (Posted on )

A nice looking folder, very sharp. Downsides are very expensive for what it is; the sheath would have been a nice touch if it had been in leather. Biggest problem is when closed, the bottom of the blade leaves a very nasty sharp corner of 3G steel sticking out. Over time it will properly cut a hole in your jeans pocket. I?ve opted to use a Spyderco terzuola as an edc instead. (Posted on )

Sharpest out of the box I've had.
Definitely needs a lanyard to get it out of the sheath easily and a dash of sandpaper smoothed the wood and chamfered them for a better slide into the sheath.
Comfy for most tasks. A little touch from a DC3 sharpening stone took the edge off the perfectly machined right angles here and there.
Comes perfect but allows you to mod to suit (if you have Torx set)

A nice little folder, takes a fantastic edge and can be used with a fire steel in the closed position. My only problem is that the handle is very uncomfortable, I sustained some cuts from it whilst doing some fairly light cutting. This problem is easily solved as the handle is simple to replace. I Agree with everything Tom from Northampton says..plus use it closed with a firesteel for very respectable sparks. If the blade was 3" (cutting edge 2 3/4" - Still UK Legal) it would get five stars from me. Always in my pocket. (Posted on )

Wonderful knife, smaller than you think but blade is razor sharp and compensates for not being a lock knife. Despite its size the thick spine allows safe control. Works well in the field but cannot be used with firesteel due to the lack of lock. Gripes:pouch is snug and hard to get it out. Solved this with short length of cord through lanyard hole. The vertical-carry loop failed quickly. Heinnie sorted this and I stopped a recurrence with short Malice clip through the horizontal carry loops. (Posted on )
