  1. Best Gentleman's folder there isReview by
    Rating
Fallkniven has executed a folder in the Swedish minimalist idiom that is pure genius. Total thoroughness in design and materials. This knife is practical, beautiful and strong. It portrays a sense of character, wisdom and integrity in the user. I have come full circle. Now I know why my grandfather and father carried a knife like the GP. One reviewer online mentioned it was blade heavy. He was right, but wrong that it's a flaw . The GP is intended to be for hunting . I have dressed wild fowl, deer and trout with my GP. and it has performed well. The cobalt is the sharpest steel there is and I enjoy staying on top of my maintaining my GPs blade. This is a beautiful companion that has been with me for almost 3 years. We hope to grow old together. (Posted on )

Why? It blends timeless elegance with modern engineering techniques and materials. This gives longevity and beauty. I have owned just about every style of knife there is and I have come full circle. Now I know why my father and grandfather chose knives like the Fallkniven GP. They portray in the user character, wisdom and integrity. This knife is practical, beautiful and unthreatening.

The thoroughness and genius to which Fallkiven executes a knife with the Swedish minimalist idiom should not be underestimated. And this is Fallkniven's best. The knifes dimensions are perfect for EDC, with better ergonomics than Spyderco Delica FFG, and yes, the GP is a TRUE Gentleman's folder. In the historic and arguably contemporary sense of what that should mean. In addition to being discreet it should perform and the GP does on spades. What's uncanny however is just how practical this knife is. It also goes longer and is stronger than a Gentleman's knife has a right too and this is somthing rarely seen in the class. One reviewer online said balance was imperfect, not 50:50. Respectively , he was wrong, then right! It's deliberate. The GP was intended to be slightly blade heavy as with any true Gentleman's pocket knife, it should double as a hunting knife- and so it is with the GP, as the knife feels controllable in hand and ready to get on with the job, blade geometry, a descent belly and drop point tip further aiding the task of field dressing game, including skinning and removing meat cuts adequately .

Now after all that babble I have carried my GP for just under 3 years and I have never looked back. You dong change your socks on the middle of the World Series and the GP is no different. Subenza , Hinderer or Spyderco aside, the GP has soul and is now part of me. Highly recommended!

  4. Super KniveReview by

This knife is both aesthetically beautiful and functional.
The bearings on the blade make opening smooth and easy. There is no 'play ' on the locked blade.
The blade retains its really sharp edge really well.
Although this knive was expensive I have it for over a year and find that it was a good purchase.
I have a collection of knives but this is my favourite.

  5. Lovely, but a weak hinge limits value and useReview by
    Rating
For sure, a beautiful knife. It is a substantial thing, with a blade capable of quite hard work and definately more than the average pocket knife.
In my experience, the grind was good, even and sharp and it is a fantastic, practically shaped blade. The finish of the scales is less good and slightly uneven, but probably only noticable to the very fussy. The lock is reliable and well engineered.
However, the real let down unnoticed by other reviewers is the hinge. The hinge bolt has a tendancy to loosen (use loc-tite) and this is mainly because the hinge bushing is too narrow and made of delrin/plastic. Play is almost impossible to iron out. This is a really cheap and badly engineered hinge and limits the uses this substantial and beautiful blade can be put too. Yes, I could fiddle on and improve the hinge, but should I have to at this price?

  6. Not as good as I expectedReview by
    Rating
For a knife costing almost £200, this leaves a lot to be desired. I can only imagine that the two previous reviewers don't own many premium quality knives.

Fit and finish are not as good as they should be; the bolsters and frame have gaps between them, the groove in the bolsters is uneven and unequal on each side.

The emblem on each handle slab stands too proud above the surface of the wood, and there was excess hot glue leaking from one of them.

The blade grind is atrocious and uneven, with the swedge on one side of the blade being almost 2mm wider than on the other side. The factory edge was very poor, requiring some sharpening and stropping before it lived up to the Fallkniven spiel.

Overall, not worth the money; it should be £80 cheaper, or put together a hell of a lot better than it is.

  7. OutstandingReview by
    Rating
My Crimbo present from my beautiful wife this year, and she is beautiful, I am a lucky man! Anyway as for the knife, it is outstanding, traditional and quite lovely to behold, it was sharp out of the box but I polished the bevel with an edge-pro from the states, which HH should consider stocking as it really is a knife sharpeners dream, but I digress, this is my first Fallkniven and I can truly understand what all the fuss is about, the build quality is second to none, the steel is fantastic and like my wife, it is a thing of beauty! In conclusion, treat that special lady in your life and then ask for a Fallkniven GP for Xmas, you cannot go wrong! (Posted on )
  8. Perfect Pocket KnifeReview by
    Rating
I've owned this knife for about 6 months and it really has been a pleasure to own and use. If you've ever held a Fallkniven, then you will already know that the build quality will last a life time, and probably your children's (and children's children...)

The locking mechanism is beautifully slick and confidence inspiring. No real ergonomics in the handle, yet still amazingly comfortable to hold. The Cocobola wooden scales both look great and offer good grip.

The laminate cobalt steel blade needs to been used to be believed. Whilst a little time consuming to get a good edge, when you get there the blade is razor sharp and holds extreamely well, even with extended field use. For general use, I find a little sharpening more often suits the steel. Working an edge back from a dull blade can be a bit of a chore.

When ever I reach for a pocket carry utility knife, it is always my Fallkniven GP these days.

Satisfying to use and craftsmanship to admire.
