Description

The EKA Swede 88 folding knife is an excellent choice for hunting and leisure. It has a drop-point blade made of Sandvik surgical stainless steel with a unique safety lock that leaves the top of the handle totally free. The hinge pin is threaded to allow for adjustment. The ergonomic handle of Kraton has a rubber feel and provides an excellent grip.

    Just expanding on, as opposed to disagreeing with, the previous review. Yes, the handle is on the chunky side compared to the relatively thin blade stock. This is more of a slicing/ carving knife than anything more heavy duty. The relative thickness of the handle probably owes something to this being intended for cold weather use, with gloves. It handles just fine without gloves though. One potential negative of all EKA 88s is the thin metal stock means that the back lock is thin and can dig into your fingers when using it.

    As for the grinds, my copy was more or less a scandi, with some slight convexity. Which suits me just fine. I've owned a few 88s over the years. The first copies were proper scandi grinds then EKA switched to an OTT concave grind with a very weak edge. They're cheaper to produce and impress non knife nerds with their initial sharpness. Not a good move EKA. So, yes, if you are particular about grinds there is variability and it is something to keep an eye out for
