CRKT Summit Series

CRKT Summit Series

Sometimes your life depends on the tools you select, tools such as your pitons, ice axe, crampons and knife. Because climbers regard reaching the summits of the 14,000 ft. North American peaks as the pinnacle of achievement, Columbia River named this popular line the 14K Summit series.

Columbia River began with a powerful InterFrame locking liner construction with nickel chrome plated zinc alloy scales. featuring an aircraft-style drilled skeleton design. Weight is reduced without compromising the exceptional strength. The dual liners are 420J2 stainless steel. Handles are designed with an extended guard and bead-blast finish to give you extra gripping power. Friction grooves at the lock and on the blade spine improve grip in wet and icy conditions.

The high-carbon, 420J2 stainless steel blade features a rugged modified drop point shape and bead-blast finish. Blade grinds are engineered to retain maximum thickness at the tip and through the length of the spine. This blade is built for real work. Triple-Point Serrations are available on all sizes.

Integrated into the design is the patented* LAWKS safety, which effectively converts your folder into a virtual fixed blade when the lever is slid forward, very reassuring when you are using your knife for difficult and tiring tasks.

Don't like the additional lock. You kind of want to like it, but you won't. If you have the blade too loose the little locking plate and thumb stud will just flop around on it's own, don't need it do you ? It just adds another bit of metal into the pivot area which over complicates things. It does work however and isn't really a problem. Oh... Mine squeaks when opening and closing which is irritating, but the action is pretty good.
A fine EDC blade. Simple pocketable functionality.

Had one of these for a few years now from when it used to be called the Denali. It feels great in the hand and is nearly a great design. However, the blade steel is not particularly good and dulls very easily. Also, the blade has a worrying amount of play in it and the only way to stabilize it is to tighten the hex bolt which then pulls the blade way off centre to the point where it scrapes the inside of the frame. Upon stripping it for a clean I found quite a bit of rusted corrosion inside and it's smooth action is achieved by the use of plastic washers around the pivot and the lawks system which I think wear away rather quickly. Sharpening it using a guide showed quite an uneven grind too. Yes, it's cheap but I reckon similar priced EDC folders from Ontario and Spyderco would be a better buy. I would love to see this knife with a better steel and a more robust washer system even if it cost a little more because there's something great about the geometry and feel of it. (Posted on )

Staight out of the box an absolute joy, call me fickle but my Pikes Peak has gone to the top of my EDC rotation. Only time and use will tell, but the look and heft are first rate also a razor out of the box. Thanks again H-H for excellent service. (Posted on )

I bought this as an EDC and was amazed at how robust this knife was. I wouldn't rate it as a climbers knife for more reasons that space allows me to write but don't be put off, for practically anything else this is a great performer, it's very strong and takes a hell of a beating. The only fault would be that one for the star drive screws came loose (hard to find a tool to tighten). HH as always superb. (Posted on )
