Description

The compact Boker Cox pocket knife by Jens Ansø combines classic technology with modern design and high-tech materials. The Cox, designed as a slip joint, has a blade made from Böhler N690 steel, while the handle is based on a titanium plate and self-supporting G10 front scale. The rustic stonewash finish creates a strong contrast to the orange G10 of the contoured front scale. It is limited to 199 pieces world-wide.

  1. Use with careReview by

I remember ordering a Cox several years ago and was surprised that when I went looking for it I couldn't find it. Checking my records I found I had returned it because the proprietary pivot screw was working loose. Recently I ordered another Cox. For me a collectable not a user but I was playing with it and cut my finger badly when closing. Obviously my bad but I analysed the reasons. The knife has a very strong lock-up, but a lock-up which releases to the half-stop suddenly. There is no finger protection at the half-stop. Continuing my critical analysis the closed hold therefore the opening force is greater than other knives but the nail nick is further back than other knives, for example Enzo PK70, Manly Wasp, Benchmade Proper. That out of the way, the material selection, fit and finish including centering is exceptional. Hollow ground, thin behind the edge, so a real slicer. And it has a lanyard hole! But not for me as I am unforgiving, but a fantastic knife for others if used with care. (Posted on )
  2. A great knife with one serious design flawReview by

The Boker Cox is beautifully made, with a rugged simplicity reminiscent of an old-fashioned jack knife. The sheeps foot blade shape is an excellent choice for UK users, since it is obviously non-aggressive. The hollow grind makes the cutting edge very thin, and it will take a razor -sharp edge. It also makes it very easy to open the knife without resorting to the nail nick; the spine is around 4 mm wide, creating a firm wedge-shaped grip. Why then does this knife warrant only three stars? I am afraid that the small nub on the handle which is intended, I should imagine, to act as a finger guard, is positioned in exactly the wrong place. The handle is too short to allow a decent grip with four fingers behind the guard, and the natural grip position leaves the index finger poised directly over the top of the guard, which is uncomfortable. This design failing was so irritating that I ground off the entire guard structure to create a single continuous arc from top to bottom of the handle. The grip now works perfectly, and the knife has become worthy of five stars. Keep this in mind if you are considering this knife, even if you have very small hands. The guard is entirely unnecessary on a slip joint folder of this size, and it does nothing but diminish functionality. (Posted on )
