Description
The Benchmade Steep Country Hunter is a brilliant example of a proper all-round fixed blade hunting knife. The blade has been crafted from S30V Stainless Steel with a small drop point and a superb flat grind, and ample cutting edge. Across the spine of the blade there are two sections of gimping, which have been strategically placed to offer excellent grip, no matter your hand position.
The handle has made using Santoprene (rubber) offers incredible amounts of grip, and Benchmade have cleverly shaped the underside of the handle for comfort, and they have also added extra texturing, which further enhances grip. Across the spine of the handle the full tang blade has had little cuts made into it. This gives the knife a really smart feel.
The Benchmade Steep Country Hunter is really well balanced with unparalleled grip. It also comes in a choice of two handle colours which is nice bonus!
For the money, you don’t just get a knife. You also get a quality Kydex sheath, with leather belt loop and locking strap. This will keep you knife secure and safe.

I wanted a fixed blade knife made of S30V steel like on my UKPK, which never seems to go dull - to use in the kitchen. I was tired of normal kitchen knives going dull, and the ceramic ones from Lakeland were great but chipped quite quickly. I absolutely love this knife. The balance in the hand and ability to hold in different grips all suit kitchen tasks. I was a bit worried about its thickness but it still slices tomatoes, courgettes, and cucumbers really well. Not as easy to get super thin slivers as with a thinner blade, but I can live with it. Definitely better than I would expect from what is basically a small bushcraft knife. Now, the sharpness was what I got it for and it's amazing. It's a light saber. No need for sharpening after a few weeks but I've only used it on vegetables. One last thing is the sheath - since it comes with one, it might as well have been better. It really doesn't do justice to the quality of the knife. Roughly moulded plastic with no retention of the blade, and a somewhat flimsy leather loop that goes around the handle, with a fat popper that's difficult to do up. I was lucky to get the black handle version when it was in stock for £87 which I consider good value. (Posted on 3 July 2017)Rating
