Got this as a gift, friend wasn't really in to the knife world so he just went for the famous "Bear Grylls" knife. Steel was horrible didn't have to take it out, 20 cuts through card boards and the edge is half gone, wonder why they didn't write out steel specs. Loose blade plays, usually doesn't bother me that much, but combined with the bad steel just seem overall cheap, handle was ok, which is where my 1 star goes to.

If you are interested in a heavy duty folder, save up and go for a Recon1 or maybe the Endura. For similar price Rat1 or Tenacious will own this one, at least they have a proper blade that holds an edge.

    2. Great knifeReview by
Brilliant knife and a low cost too, I know ú30 might seem a lot but for a quality lock knife, this is dirt cheap (on average a good locky will cost you ú50-ú100... if you haggle). I got this for xmas but used it pretty much all day carving wood, still shaving sharp with minor blade play, nothing a screwdriver won't sort out. (Posted on )

Aside from it being really visible on the ground, there's not much else to say about it, positively anyway. It's not legal carry, so Scouts can't use it. Terry from Hemel Hempstead will possibly be locked up, buying ten of them for his group. It's also c*** quality. You'd have been better off spending the money on Swiss Army knives tbh. (Posted on )
    4. Cheap gimmicky rubbishReview by

I bought this as a Grylls fan being very aware of how bad it could potentially be - and I was correct.
      Ridiculous side-to-side play
Gerber rubbish 'mystery steel' dulls almost immediately.
Nice grippy rubbery texture, which is needed because the pathetic excuse for jimping certainly offers no traction whatsoever.
It weighs very little since there are no steel liners, only cheap chinese plastic handles, and has a deep carry pocket clip, so it could potentially be a useful EDC and should cope adequately for most people.
For ú30, you either need to be a massive Bear Grylls fan or you'd have to be very easily pleased and have more money than sense.
Steer clear from Gerber as a company, let alone the gimmick that is the Bear Grylls line. Very poor quality indeed.

I bought one for work about 4 months ago and use it all the time, it keeps a good edge and with being bright it's easy to locate on the ground. The grip is is firm and comfortable but is beginning to show wear already where my finger goes round. My only dislike is the belt clip but that is just personal preference not a fault on the knife. All in all I would recomend this knife to people who need a hard working knife with a relativley small blade and off the back of this I bought the ultimate knife.

    6. Have any of…Review by
Have any of you chaps ever considered that despite Bear being king Scout or whatever the title is, the name of the knife might be an umbrella term and not necessarily entirely related or directed at scouts as a market? I can see a point for its existence all the time there's a requirement for a knife, surely? But of course, I'm not a scout, I'm not allowed to buy it. (Posted on )
    7. Rich Scouts!!Review by
Terry from Hemel Hempstead, your Scout group must be a lot wealthier than mine if you can spend close to ú400 on knives for your Scouts, something like a Mora Clipper would have been a much better knife at a much better price! (Posted on )
    8. UK Legal CarryReview by
You 'comment spammers' need to read up on UK law regarding what is and isn't legal to carry in the UK. It is perfectly legal to carry ANY knife in the UK if it is carried correctly, and the carrier can demonstrate a reason for carrying it. And if you want to be pedantic about your negative position, it can be illegal to carry ANY knife in the UK as ANY knife is considered a bladed article under UK law. So before you shoot off your mouthes telling people they can't carry this knife, so not to buy it, read your law books and get your facts right. (Posted on )

Solid build, nice and sharp. Also, it's not illegal to carry if you have good reason for carrying it. If you are outdoors scouting, that is good reason. Every scout needs a knife, and it is ridiculous to imagine that they should be expected to go outdoors without one. (Posted on )
    10. Strange country we live in.Review by
This isn't a review of the Scout Clip Folder, but a comment on the fact that it would be ilegal for a scout to carry one in the UK. None of the BG Gerber knives are legal carry in the UK; a sad reflection on the increasingly paranoid, knee-jerk legislature we have in this country. I would imagigine BG and Gerber are well aware of this and have aimed their products at the international market, that is, countries where adults are treated as such; and where bushcraft practitioners don't have to walk around feeling like they've been castrated. Wow, just what we've been waiting for - I've just ordered ten of these for our bushcraft camp this spring - bright colours, easy to find, nice blade, just what I need. (Posted on )
    12. Good Little Lock KnifeReview by

Mine arrived today, and for the money its a solid well made knife. Already used it around the garden and cut up a ton of boxes. Seems to hold a good edge.
Came very sharp, lovely grippy handle, good blade shape.
      Highly recommended.
Nice to see Bear Grylls putting his name on a good knife that is within most peoples budget.

    13. An observation reallyReview by
No scout in the UK could ever buy this blade as it isn't legal carry in the UK - the blade is too long and the thing locks.
If the quality of the fixed blade version is anything to go by I don't see a point (no pun intended) for this to exist except to cynically cash-in on Mr Grills position on television and in the scout movement.
